I used to get a reading list in high school which listed books I had to read over the Summer before school started again in the fall. Since those lists included books like
Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man and
Cyrano de Bergerac (what I'm saying is I didn't like those), I decided to make my own reading list. Likewise, maybe you're looking for something new to read this summer. This is what I came up with. Feel free to agree or disagree (not really).
What NOT to Read this Summer:
If you've ever wondered what "Thesaurus Rape" was, this is it. And yes, I work with high school girls so I've actually read all 4. Please send hate mail elsewhere.
Summer Reading Recommendation for Stephenie Meyer:

Oh my gosh. I love that you listed Twilight on your NOT to read list. Thank you for posting that. That totally just made my day. Thank goodness for someone else who did not get swept up in the weird, want to be bitten by a vampire and have his baby craze!! I still haven't read Gone With The Wind. That is going on my to-read list for this summer for sure!
Sometimes when I read your blog it is like my thoughts I never really say out loud. Cyrano de Bergerac has to be one of the most disgusting and creepy books ever. I had pushed his hideous nose out of my memory, thanks for bringing that memory back. I concur on the Twilight books, as well as Gone With the Wind, even though it took me FOREVER to read and was a little hard to fall in reader love with a guy named Ashley.
I "love love love" this post. It made me laugh...and roll my eyes...but mostly laugh. :)
However, I think I might take some of your recommendations to heart - minus the Harry Potter books, because you alreay know I won't give in to those...sorry.
Hey - lets go on a library date instead of a coffee date...and I'm not joking.
I read about 3 pages of twilight to see what all the fuss was about. I decided that the high school girls were so into it so that they could learn how not to write. It was unbelievably bad. Also, Kari, you should probably read Harry Potter.
I recommend A Tale of Two Cities by the way.
