My husband has officially been Private Brown in the Army for one week now. But rather than talk about depressing subjects like Andrew being in the military, I would rather share pictures of baking! Why? Because blogging is about sharing things you're proud of and making your life seem perfect. So I've decided to try and compare my Army wife status to food -- because baking is a lot like life: you have to make do with what you have, be creative, share with others, find joy in the simple things and try not to get fat. If my life right now were a baked good...it would be a:
Cupcake:
because they're alone but luckily they have a large number of friends that stick with them.
A Pie:
because it doesn't matter how pretty you make the crust look, it's what's inside you that really matters (like healthy Holy Spirit fruits).
Mess:
because sometimes you forget to clean as you go because you're not Martha Stewart.
A Cake:
because it's big enough to share with other people even if it is just one little cake...and also you can put Army men on top of it and make it a military defense cake:
Did anyone follow this post? Didn't think so. But Andrew will be coming back for Christmas hopefully. He's in South Carolina for basic training for 10 weeks and then he's going to Georgia for Officer school for 13 weeks. Come over and have food with me. I make a pretty decent cheesecake.

Hey Lyndsey,
Yes, I got to see Andrew for less than 24 hours. He moved all our stuff up to a storage unit with his dad. He leaves again today at 12pm on a jet plane back to Sacramento. He will be here for Thanksgiving and then I will go there for Christmas. I know what you are going through totally and I hope that you will have friends that will come and hang out with you. My God bless you during this time even though it is really hard. God is in control Lyndsey. Don't eat too many sweets or you will be living at the gym!!! Thanks for writing me and if you ever need to just vent you can email me, write, call, visit, or whatever you need. The "Andrew's" will come back soon! I am glad that your Andrew will come back during Christmas time hopefully or you might just have to go there! Have a great day Lyndsey!
Lyndsey! Why oh why did you have to post so many sweet treat pictures. Now that's all my mind can think about. That cake looks DIVINE! So yes, I'll come over and eat with you...anytime. :) and not just because of the treats.
Lyndsey! I had no idea Andrew joined the Army!!! I'm sorry! We really need to get together...
Hi,
I'm friends with Charissa and so I occasionally read your blog. All the food you made looks great.
I'm the wife of an officer in the Army National Guard who deploys this month.
I don't know how often you see Charissa but I wanted to offer- I have 3 books that are for military spouses that are pretty good. It's just nice to read about other people who understand what you're going through. I'd be happy to loan you the books. If Andrew is going active you'll eventually have the support of the post wives, but if he's guard it's much more difficult to find people who understand exactly how you're feeling.
I can give Charissa the books if your interested.
The best advice I can give you is to stay busy. Time goes faster that way. Being the wife of the military is an honor -congrats.

"blogging is about sharing things you're proud of and making your life seem perfect..." yes. i agree completely and have had the exact same thought...
if you get bored give me a call anytime...do you have my number? if not you could always....facebook :)
I get to reap one of the hidden "benefits" of Andrew being gone: a temporary personal chef. Thanks Kitty for all the healty dinners, and not so healthy desserts. They're like little drops of heaven...times a billion.
